What this means: this estimate is based on your lean body mass — the muscle you're actually carrying — which is why it's more accurate than generic calculators. If you've been eating well below this number for months (or years), your true maintenance may be suppressed, and jumping straight into another deficit will work against you. This is exactly what reverse dieting is designed to fix.

Estimates use the Katch-McArdle equation (based on lean body mass) with a movement-based activity adjustment. Visual body fat estimates are approximate — bodies vary, and where you carry fat is largely genetic. A starting point, not a prescription.
